Roblox trading safety: rules and common scams

What Roblox's rules say about trading, why trades can't be reversed, and the scams to watch for in MM2, Jailbreak, CoS and MVSD.

Trading items is part of the fun in games like MM2, Jailbreak, Creatures of Sonaria and MVSD. It's also where most players lose items. Here's what Roblox's own rules say, and the scams that come up again and again.

What Roblox's rules say

  • No real-money trading. Roblox's Terms of Use only allow Robux and virtual items to be used through Roblox itself. Buying or selling items for real money or on outside sites can void the deal and get your account suspended or banned.
  • No account sharing. Selling your account, or giving someone access to it, is against the rules, and so is asking for access to someone else's.
  • Trades can't be undone. Roblox Support says it can't reverse a deal between players or return items or currency if the other person backs out.

Never trust trade

A trust trade is any deal where one person goes first and hopes the other follows through, for example "give me your item and I'll send mine after." Roblox Help warns against deals where one side has to trust the other, and the official Creatures of Sonaria wiki tells players never to accept a trust trade. Once your item is gone, nobody can get it back.

Common scams

  • Swapping at the last second. The other player changes an item right before you accept. Always check the final trade window, item by item.
  • Lookalike items. A cheaper version is passed off as a rare one. Check the item's name and details in the trade window, not just its picture.
  • Quantity tricks. Many low-demand items offered for one high-demand item. The total value can look fair while the trade is really an L. See how to judge a trade.
  • Pressure. "Accept fast, I'm leaving." Real traders will wait while you check values.
  • Fake middlemen. Someone offers to "hold" items for both sides. This is a trust trade with extra steps.
  • Off-platform payment. Robux, gift cards or money "later" in exchange for items. It's against Roblox's rules and you have no protection.
  • Login links. Any link that asks you to sign in to Roblox, or a site that wants your password or cookies. Roblox treats this as phishing.

Simple habits that protect you

  1. Look up both sides in one value list before you accept.
  2. Check demand and trend, not just the total.
  3. Read the final trade window slowly.
  4. Never go first, and never use middlemen.
  5. Never share your password, a login code or your browser cookies.
